One of the most influential subgenres within the gaming landscape is the sci-fi horror genre. There is so much creativity and talent on display while taking a scroll through sci-fi history. From System Shock to Dead Space - there is a lot to enjoy. Why am I telling you all this? Well, because we might stand on the verge of a new breakthrough. Not only for the sci-fi subgenre but also for gaming in general. We’ve had the pleasure to experience the first waking moment of Project Prismatic - the best looking web game we have ever seen. In this preview we’ll tell you all about the upcoming first-person shooter from developer Stratton Studios and how it uses the web as its playing ground.
What is Project Prismatic?
Project Prismatic is a cinematic sci-fi experience in a browser where immersive storytelling meets FPS action. You play as Dylan Randolph - a daring pilot who cruises through a dying galaxy and battles the terrifying Cindralisks. However, these biomechanical predators aren’t the only threat around. Players will discover ancient secrets while exploring this fascinating world - and all of that while staying in their favorite browser.
When you start up Project Prismatic, you’ll start at the space station and get introduced to the setting. While arriving at the training facility that is located in the endlessness of the universe I had a single thought racing through my mind: how can a game simply running on the web look this good? Project Prismatic offers high-fidelity visuals unlike anything we’ve ever seen before in web-based gaming. The high-end graphics are complimented by the use of clever lighting, so players can immerse themselves in an experience that oozes with atmosphere. Thanks to Ray Browser, the performance is optimized for a smooth gaming experience.

Project Prismatic isn’t just about the visuals though. Stratton Studios has a story to tell and in the first moments of the campaign this becomes crystal clear. Dylan expected to go through the motions. Just a regular workday, right? It couldn’t be further from the truth. While the player gets used to the controls, things take a turn for the worse. You are no longer concerned by getting your paycheck on time - survival is now the only thing that matters while the station is engulfed in flames. How did this happen? A mystery is unfolding but one thing is a given - you’re not alone.
All well and good, but what about the gameplay? Well, Project Prismatic has a couple of things going for it. The gunplay feels snappy and you can definitely feel the impact these firearms deliver. Though you don’t always have to shoot your way out - you can mix things up a little. Project Prismatic offers some fun puzzle mini games and exhilarating set pieces. Of course, I’m not going to spoil those here, so be sure to check out Project Prismatic for yourself.

You can play Project Prismatic right now on Ray Browser, where we’ve optimized everything to give you the smoothest experience possible. Episode one of this episodic FPS launches today, delivering 15 minutes of cinematic action. Stratton Studios has confirmed new content will drop every 8 weeks — and we’re definitely watching closely. This could mark the beginning of a new dawn in web gaming.
